Version ftaasc: This the short course aggregation of GTAP Working Paper #26: How Confident Can We Be in CGE-Based Assessments of Free Trade Agreements?

The original paper included more regions and full merchandise commodity detail from the GTAP data base, in order to match up with the econometrically estimated elasticities in that paper. However, this version takes awhile to run and so we have created a smaller version of the data base, by further aggregating the working paper version. (Note that some adjustments were made to the original GTAP data in order to create this version -- see the WP appendix for details.)

Because of the loss of information associated with aggregation, the results from this version will not be the same as those from the disaggregated version used in the Working Paper. For those interested in conducting systematic sensitivity analysis, we have left the motor vehiciles and parts sector fully disaggregated, so you can experiment with conducting SSA on that parameter using the estimates and approach outlined in the paper.

The reduced aggregation has just 8 sectors, as follows:

Aggregate Sector	Description
PAGR	Primary Agriculture
PRIM	Other Primary Production
FOOD	Food Processing
TWL	Textiles, Wearing Apparel, and Leather Products
MAEQ	Machinery and Equipment
MVH	Motor Vehicles and Parts
MNFC	Other Manufactures
SVCS	Services

The 12 regions are:

Aggregate Region	Description
NAM	North America
XCM	Other Central America and Caribbean
COL	Colombia
PER	Peru
VEN	Venezuela
XAP	Other Andean Pact
ARG	Argentina
BRA	Brazil
CHL	Chile
URY	Uruguay
