Curriculum Vitae - Samuel Zita

I have a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Pretoria, South Africa and possess over 13 years of work experience. During this period I have been playing the advisory role on trade and economic development policy issues and projects and worked with governments, development partners, the private sector and civil society at the national and international levels.

At the national level, my experience include (i) contributing to project design, monitoring and evaluation of donor-funded programs, (ii) supporting the Mozambican government in drafting market access offers and requests for trade in goods within the context of the Tripartite COMESA-SADC-EAC Free Trade Area; (ii) mapping of the private sector enterprises of Mozambique the elaboration of policy briefs to understand economic developments with a particular focus on trade flows, investment and competiveness issues, and their impact on economic growth and poverty reduction, (iii) supporting both the public and private sectors to identify and elaborate trade and trade-related projects to help Mozambique to improve its integration in the regional, international and global value chains and (iv) supporting the government of Mozambique to (a) elaborate the National Export Strategy 2018-2022, (b) implement the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and (c) identify trade facilitation challenges and opportunities to increase and diversify exports of the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

At the international level, I have the experience of providing backstop technical support to government and private sector associations on trade and trade-related policies at the bilateral, regional and multilateral levels (COMESA Free Trade Area, Economic Partnership Agreement Negotiations between the European Union and the Eastern and Southern African Configuration and WTO accession of Least Developed Countries). Specific tasks included the elaboration of policy briefs, papers, promotion of regional business opportunities and providing backstop technical support to public officials and private sector associations during trade negotiating sessions on trade facilitation (sanitary and phytosanitary standards, technical barriers to trade and rules of origin), market access (agricultural and industrial goods and services), investment, public procurement and private sector development cooperation. I also have the experience of planning, facilitating and monitoring training and sensitization programs for various stakeholders (public, private, academic and Civil Society Organisations). I've also supported the government of Angola to elaborate the National Export Diversification Strategy 2020-2024.

Last but not least, I have good analytical skills (qualitative and quantitative) and have good audience-driven written and oral communication skills in Portuguese, English and French. Moreover, I am proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

One of my professional ambitions at the moment is to strengthen my quantitative analytical skills especially on CGE modelling.
