"Effects of Climate Change on Crop Revenue in Kenya: Implications on Agricultural Production"
by Laichena, Joshua

Abstract
This study explored the impact of climate and economic factors on maize production and revenue in Kenya, employing a Ricardian model with 2013 data from 12,651 households and climate variables. The findings revealed a significant effect of seasonal temperature and precipitation on net crop revenue, with cold-season temperatures and hot-season precipitation negatively impacting yields. The results highlight the vulnerability of Kenyan agriculture to climate variability, emphasizing the importance of seasonal climate changes when crafting policies. Policymakers are urged to enhance climate adaptation strategies, such as improved farming techniques, irrigation systems, crop diversification, and access to credit and extension services. These measures are vital to mitigate potential revenue losses, support vulnerable ASAL regions of Kenya, and secure the agricultural sector's contribution to Kenya's GDP and food security amidst climate challenges.
