Biography
Dr. Heinrich Bohlmann holds a PhD in Economics from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia and an M.Com in Economics of Trade and Investment from the University of Pretoria. He is currently employed as an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Pretoria where he specialises in economic policy research using dynamic computable general equilibrium (CGE) modelling methods. Dr. Bohlmann has also been contracted as an economic modelling consultant on various research and training projects to clients such as the World Bank, South Africa’s National Treasury, Gauteng Provincial Government, Eskom and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. His academic and contract work has mainly focused on macroeconomic planning, energy and environmental policy, and labour market topics. In addition to his research activities, Dr. Bohlmann teaches and coordinates undergraduate macroeconomics and postgraduate CGE modelling courses at the University of Pretoria, and professional short courses in CGE modelling via Enterprises UP.

During the course of his academic career, Dr. Bohlmann has presented papers at several local and international conferences, published research in renowned academic journals and served as a panel discussant at various workshops. He further supervises PhD students and postgraduate research essays, serves as a referee to numerous journals and acts as an external examiner for economics courses at other South African universities. Dr. Bohlmann is currently a member of and serving on the council of the Economic Society of South Africa (ESSA) and the South African Association for Energy Economics (SAAEE). Since joining the Department of Economics in 2011, Dr. Bohlmann has been a key member of the team that maintains and develops the University of Pretoria General Equilibrium Model (UPGEM), implemented on the GEMPACK software platform. In 2015, he was awarded the inaugural Ken Pearson Scholarship by the Centre of Policy Studies and Center for Global Trade Analysis in recognition of his status as a young researcher contributing to the use and development of analytical software for CGE modelling.
