"Economy–wide Implications of Biomass Substitution for Petroleum in the United States: How the Source of Biomass Matters"
by Dixon, Peter, Mark Gehlhar, Maureen Rimmer, Agapi Somwaru and Ashley Winston

Abstract
This study employs a modified version of the USAGE model developed at the Centre of Policy Studies(CoPS) in collaboration with the US International Trade Commission. In collaboration with the Economic Research Service a modified version (USAGE-B) of the model addresses several shortcomings for bio-fuels. The database includes specific land types for US crops and approximately 20 agricultural sectors including those designated as feedstock bio-fuel activity. Theoretical modifications include (1) supply and demand enhancements for land, (2) adjusting technologies to capture biofuels production, (3) the use of complementarity relationships for handling constraints on inputs to ethanol production. The primary results focus on a scenario for meeting a biofuels mandate for the year 2022.
