"Economic effects of endogenous human capital accumulation in a regional CGE model"
by Lucas, Paul, Henk Hilderink and Ada Ignaciuk

Abstract
Human capital can be considered as an engine of growth (Lucas, 1988). However, the effects of human capital investments for economic developments become only visible on the long term. To assess the trade-offs, the recursive dynamic regional CGE model DART is dynamically linked with a cohort-component demographic model GISMO1.0. The two models are linked on a time-step basis. The demographic model describes population dynamics with one-year age components, including a health and an education module. The economic model invests in education and health through a government, and determines economic growth due to human and physical capital accumulation. Human capital accumulation takes into account the changing demographic structure and its health and educational status (low- and high-skilled labor).
