"Introduction to Computable General Equilibrium Models" by Burfisher, Mary Abstract This book is a practical, introductory, how-to guide to CGE models. It provides intuitive and graphical explanations of the economic theory that underlies a CGE model and provides many examples and hands-on exercises. The databases used in textbook examples and model exercises can be downloaded from the links below. US3x3.zip - 3-sector (AGR, MFG, SER) and 3-factor (Land, Labor and Capital) v7.0 database for the U.S. and ROW. It is used in textbook examples and in most model exercises. TaxToy.zip Tax Toy is an archived v7.0, 3x3 model of the U.S. and ROW that has zero initial taxes (using AlterTax). Tax Toy can be used to study the introduction of one or more taxes into a distortion-free economy. Experiments that replicate selected tables in Chapter 8 are included in the zip file. Immigr.zip - A v 7.0, 3-sector (AGR, MFG, SER) of the U.S. and ROW database with two labor types (skilled and unskilled) plus capital. It is used in Model Exercise 6, "How Immigration can Raise Wages." Tobacco3x3.zip - A v 7.0, 3-sector (Tobacco, MFG, SER) and 3-factor (Land, Labor, Capital) v7.0 database for the U.S. and ROW. It is used in Model Exercise 9, "Successful Quitters: the Economic Effects of Growing Anti-Smoking Attitudes." Available for purchase through Cambridge University Press |
