"Micro-based indicators of GVC participation and positioning"

Abstract
For a finer analysis of global value chain positioning and integration, we provide and apply a micro-foundation in the construction of a global Inter-Country Input-Output accounting framework. We use firm-level data on the production structure, exports, and imports to directly inform and refine the attribution of bilateral trade by agent (e.g., intermediate or final consumers) within the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) Data Base to improve estimates of the sourcing and allocation of imported inputs across sectors, thus enhancing the quality of data used for the computation of trade in VA indicators. The resulting integrated database is used to compute improved GVC-related indicators characterizing the participation and positioning of Italian firms in global networks.
