"Socio-economic implications of different options for a 2040 EU climate target" by Weitzel, Matthias, Rafael Garaffa, Ana Norman-Lopez, Jose Antonio Ordonez, Umed Temursho and Camille Van Der Vorst Abstract Europe has set a climate target for 2030 as well as a climate neutrality target for 2050. It is obliged both by EU law and the Paris agreement to provide an intermediate target. Here, we carry out a socio-economic analysis for different options of a 2040 climate target using a CGE model that is informed by detailed energy system modelling. In the modelling exercise, we pay particular attention to the assessment of investment needs and distributional implications on households. |
