"Linking Global CGE and Microsimulation Models for Distributional Policy Analysis: Selected Applications and Directions for Future Research" Authors: Osorio Rodarte, Israel Abstract Linking CGE and microsimulation models enables researchers to move beyond aggregate welfare measures and uncover distributional and resiliency effects of policy reforms. Recently, the ENVISAGE–GIDD framework has been used to show that tariff liberalisation and trade facilitation reduce poverty and inequality while enhancing economic resilience, whereas reshoring harms developing countries and the poor. A growing literature has developed alternative ways to link macro and micro models—fully integrated, top-down, bottom-up and iterative approaches—each balancing realism, data requirements and computational burden. Continued innovation in dynamic microsimulation, integrated macro–micro modelling, data harmonisation and sectoral linkages will be critical for designing trade and development policies that are both efficient and inclusive. |
