"Turkey’s Strategic Trade Policy Alternatives in a World of Multi-Polar Trade Blocs: Lessons from an Intertemporal, Multi-Region General Equilibrium Model"
by Diao, Xinshen and A. Erinc Yeldan

Abstract
With the aid of an intertemporal, multi-region general equilibrium model, we study issues of trade liberalization, growth and capital accumulation in the context of a world economy moving towards a multi-polar structure. We specifically focus on the Middle East, Turkey, the European Union, and the Economies in Transition, and study various alternative scenarios of formation of customs unions and increased trade orientation. Our results reveal significant gains from increased bilateral trade between the identified regions, and further underscore the crucial importance of foreign saving flows for sustaining the accumulation patterns.
