"Labour Market Reform, Rural Migration and Income Inequality in China -- A Dynamic General Equilibrium Analysis "
by Yinhua, Mai and Xiujian Peng

Abstract
Notwithstanding the partial modification of the hukou system that has occurred since the early 1980s, it is still the largest institutional barrier to rural labour migration in China. The paper will trace the impact of further liberalisation moves. Forecast simulation utilising dynamic CGE modelling will map out quantitative growth paths of macroeconomic variables over the next 20 years under alternative rural labour mobility scenarios. The paper will also inform policymakers of the potential contribution that enhanced labour mobility may render to economic growth and rural-urban income equality.
