"Macro-economic outlook of sustainable energy and biorenewables innovations"
by van Meijl, Hans, Yannis Tsiropoulos, Heleen Bartelings, Ric Hoefnagels, Edward Smeets, Andrzej Tabeau and Andre Faaij

Abstract
In the present study, we expand the Modular Applied GeNeral Equilibrium Tool (MAGNET) CGE model with bioeconomy sectors and in particular 2nd generation road transport fuels, electricity, heat and chemicals from biomass. Furthermore, we improve biomass supply including agricultural residues, forestry residues and pretreatment of those feedstocks to pellets for international biomass trade. We use scenario analysis to address effects of important assumptions on technical change. In the present study the model is demonstrated for mid-term assessment of bioeconomy developments in the Netherlands to 2030. To that end, we use a framework where the energy system model MARKAL-NL-UU [17], is used side by side with MAGNET, and we compare results obtained by the two models and highlight points of interaction that can lead to improved representation of bioeconomy in CGE models.
