"India-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement and its Impact on India’s agriculture sector"
by Miglani, Smita

Abstract
ASEAN occupies the fourth largest position in India's total external trade. There are no clear estimates on the gains that it has brought for the Indian agricultural sector which is considered as trade-sensitive, and important for food security and employment generation. Using the GTAP 9 database under a computable general equilibrium (CGE) framework, this paper examines the ex-ante impact of import tariff elimination in the agricultural sector products by India. The impact on output, employment and welfare indicators is assessed along with trade data, in the backdrop of India’s commitments in the trade agreement.
