"Could Digital Economy help China’s Provincial Carbon Emission Reduction?" by Zhou, Lingling Abstract According to the report released by the International Energy Agency, China's carbon dioxide emissions in 2022 was approximately 12.1 billion tons, mainly from coal for power generation and industrial use. Nowadays, digital economy has become a key power in the economic development, changing production and lifestyle, which has provided an important opportunity for global low-carbon green growth. The popularization of digital technology applications can effectively reduce energy intensity, reduce energy consumption per unit of output, and reduce carbon emissions from both supply and demand sides. However, the operation and development of digital technology requires a large amount of energy-intensive infrastructure, which may generate more demand for digital product consumption and services, thereby increasing energy consumption ,and leading to an "energy rebound" phenomenon. Therefore, whether the digital economy would promote achieve China's provincial carbon emission reduction goal has become an important issue in promoting green development. |
