"Evaluating Inclusive Growth Models: Case for Pakistan" by Mumtaz, Jazib and Sayed Irshad Hussain Abstract The study aims to develop a sustainable growth model by assessing the impact of liberal and socioeconomic policies on macro indicators and households in Pakistan. The country has experienced uneven growth, with high-income inequality during periods of rapid growth and slowed growth when social spending was prioritized. Three policy scenarios were tested using the CGE model within the MYGTAP framework: increased social spending, higher business output, and a combination of both. Simulations showed that business-friendly policies mainly benefited the upper and upper-middle class, exacerbating inequality and leading to unsustainable growth. The study concludes that policymakers must consider household-level dynamics for effective poverty reduction and sustainable development. |
