PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

11/1998 - Present

Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Developing Economies (IDE), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

Conducted research on anticipated impacts of trade liberalization under current or prospective consideration by the Japanese government. Commissioned papers on this topic written for the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI). Also served as a project staff in the compilation team of Asian International Input-Output Tables, responsible of Indonesian, Korean, Taiwanese, and the U.S. parts. In the project, worked with Badan Pusat Statistik - Statistics Indonesia (Indonesia), the Bank of Korea (the Republic of Korea), Taiwan Research Institute (Taiwan), Bureau of Economic Analysis, U.S. Department of Commerce, and INFORUM, University of Maryland. The team is designed to provide a series of multilateral input-output tables of 1975, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, which link the United States and nine Asian countries, i.e., China, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand, to capture the dynamic changes in the technology, industrial structure, and interdependencies in the Asia-Pacific region.


09/2003 - 09/2006

Visiting Faculty, Department of Applied Economics, University of Minnesota.

Working with Prof. Terry L. Roe and others on a number of projects related to economic growth, foreign trade, and political economy. Also taking part in the departments graduate program in these areas to help council graduate students as well as focus on a number of specific projects. One such project is to better understand the importance of public capital, its importance in contributing to economic growth, and the factors influencing the institutional environment that is critical to evolution of this capital over time.


05/1996 - 10/1998

Visiting Research Fellow, Osaka Prefectural Institute for Advanced Industry Development, Japan.

Conducted research on local macroeconomic changes of Osaka prefecture in Japan. Served as a project staff in the writing team of the White Papers on Osaka Economy.
