Biography
Ken Itakura is a Professor at the Graduate School of Economics, Nagoya City University, and concurrently serves as Visiting Professor at the Research Center for Policy Design, Tohoku University, Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI), Cabinet Office of Japan, and Faculty Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI).

His research interests are in international trade, trade policy analysis, and CGE model and database development. He is a long-standing member of the GTAP network with deep expertise in applying dynamic CGE frameworks to major policy questions. Itakura completed his Ph.D. dissertation, "Applied General Equilibrium Analysis of the Japan ASEAN Free Trade Agreement," at Purdue University in 2004 under Professor Thomas Hertel, and subsequently worked at the Center for Global Trade Analysis before joining Nagoya City University. He returned to the Center for Global Trade Analysis as a Visiting Scholar in 2016–2017 and has been a regular presenter at GTAP conferences.

His contributions to the GTAP community span both research and infrastructure. He co-authored chapters on implementing the dynamic GTAP model in the RunDynam software and on the construction of the dynamic GTAP database, published in Dynamic Modeling and Applications for Global Economic Analysis (Cambridge University Press, 2012). He has also worked on incorporating global value chains into the dynamic GTAP model and on extending the GTAP-E framework to analyze energy and power sector transitions.

His applied research covers trade agreements including TPP/CPTPP and RCEP, the US–China trade war, ASEAN economic integration, and climate-related economic impacts — consistently drawing on GTAP data and CGE methodology to inform real-world policy debates.
