Biography
Ernesto Valenzuela (PHD Purdue University) has been an economic analyst of global agricultural markets, regional economies and climate change impacts for more than two decades. During that time he has undertaken many commissioned research and consulting projects, including key international economic organizations (UNCTAD, World Bank) as well with national governments and research institutes. He is currently a Senior Lecturer of Agricultural Economics at La Trobe University, Melbourne Australia. His previous academic affiliations were with the University of Adelaide, Monash University, Federation University, and the Research Department at The World Bank at Washington DC. He has published more than 80 scholarly outputs, including professional journal articles, book chapters, reports and databases (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=gktR7mkAAAAJ&hl=en)

Ernesto obtained his PhD in Agricultural Economics from Purdue in 2006 under the direction of Prof. Tom Hertel. During his PhD studies he was the recipient of a First-year Full University scholarship and teaching and research graduate scholarships. He was a Fulbright Scholar during his Master of Science (Agribusiness Economics) studies, and his thesis was awarded as the Southern Illinois University's Best Master thesis across all programs in 2000. He was awarded his undergraduate degree from the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral - Ecuador (recipient of multiple “Equity and Excellence” university scholarships), he completed his undergraduate thesis within the immunology and genetic program of the National Center of Research Marine, CENAIM-ESPOL.

Ernesto was elected as one of the 2009-2012 GTAP Research Fellows (https://www.gtap.agecon.purdue.edu/network/fellow_list.asp). He has made contributions to the GTAP project as author of research papers, technical notes, modelling and extension files and as a course instructor at Purdue, Argentina, and Mongolia (Rio Tinto).
